President Trump Launches Diplomatic Warfare with America’s Closest Allies

| July 13, 2018

President Trump is in Europe this week, having first been in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday, then heading to the UK for Thursday meetings and a visit with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, before meeting with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday July 16.

While President Trump was very critical of the U.S. role in NATO earlier in the week, and the supposed lack of support from European allies, the actual commitment to NATO remains very much intact.

Nicholas Burns, former ambassador to NATO between 2001 and 2005, and Susan Glasser, staff writer at the New Yorker, discuss if that could change as a result of this week's meeting, and the significance of this past week in the longer scope of U.S. foreign relations.
