Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs today announced the launch of the Project on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship, an effort to help reinvigorate a continental bond that has anchored global order, provided peace and stability, and fueled economic expansion for seven decades.
Laurence D. Belfer is Chief Executive Officer of Belfer Management LLC in New York, NY, a family investment firm that emphasizes the energy, real estate, financial services and certain consumer-facing industries. He serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Castleton Commodities International, LLC. Previously, Laurence served as Vice-Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer of Belco Oil and Gas Corp. (NYSE) and Co-Founder of Harvest Capital LP.
At the Harvard Kennedy School, Laurence Co-Chairs the Dean’s Council, serves on the Executive Committee and is a Member of the International Council of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. In addition, Laurence serves as Chairman of the Board of the 92nd Street Y, where he founded and Chairs the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing, is a Member of the Asia Society Policy Institute’s Council and is a Member of the James Madison Council of the Library of Congress. Previously, he served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committees of HELP USA and UJA Federation of New York, where he Chaired the Terrorism Response Fund and the Jewish Leadership Forum.
Laurence is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO Big Apple Gold) and is a Henry Crown Fellow at The Aspen Institute. He is a 1988 graduate with honors from Harvard University who earned his Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School in 1992.
